10. Cr. City - Port Orford
Finally in Oregon
For today I had an ambitious goal: To reach a State Park more than 80mi north of Crescent City. The deal was that if I make it, I would take one day off afterwards.
I started early in the morning and crossed the boarder to Oregon soon. After helping out the Oregon tormation center with a technical problem with the WIFI I went on and found the second McDonalds since I left SF - what a joy!
After eating a whole breakfast menu and 4 cheeseburgers I went back on the road again and for the first time I had problems with the heat - but I can live with that as long as there is no wind ;-)
In the end I was surprised myself about how easily I reached the State park after 82 miles and an elevation gain of 3700ft. This was much easier than all the 50mi-days in the headwind after SF!
On the campground then the big surprise: For the first time I met another cyclist heading northwards. Only bad thing was that he is, what we call a hippie-cyclist and only makes around 30mi/day which means we won't cycle together in the next days. What a hippie-cyclist really is will be explainedI explain to you in tomorrows first rest day report ;-)
