3. Bodega Bay - Gualala
How a good day gets worse...
This day definitely started better than the last had ended: As usual I tried to take advantage of the early hours with little traffic and almost no wind. I made good progress and the landscape also changed for the better: Instead of "borring" bays I was now riding on the cliffs above the rough pacific. By 11:15 I had already done more than 30 miles and also a lot of height.
But then the wind got stronger again and got as strong as I never had experienced it before on a bike ride: Sometimes it was really difficult to stay on the road and not get blown into the roadside ditch. Sometimes I didn't even make 10mph - downhill. But at this point there were no campgrounds around which meant that I had to fight on.
Around 3pm I finally reached Gualala, a nice little village at the coast with a nice supermarket and a campground with a 5$-bike&hike-section.
Today I could have done 120 miles - in opposite direction...
