4. Gualala - Little River
Getting used to the conditions
Today I start with a campground-experience: In the late evening an other cyclist arrived - with a fixed gear bike, totally overloaded with crap. He had bought this bike from a homeless in Vancouver for 40$ and is now cycling to LA. He had to admit, that he sometimes cried on the steep roads in the mountains but was looking forward to make it.
Today I started early again - the timer rang at 6am already! The wind was still there, but by far not as strong as yesterday. Californias Number 1 was leading spectacular over cliffs high above the sea again.
In the afternoon the wind got stronger again but I had changed my tactic: Instead of fighting hard against the wind I took it as it was and instead of taking too many breaks, I tried to stay in the saddle as long as possible. In the end I did more than 50 miles again, which is ok. However, big 70 miles and more days are still out of sight.
Tomorrow I'll do a recovering short trip before I really hit the mountains for the first time the day after. And hopefully I'll soon be able to post pictures of the tallest trees in the world...
