6. Westport - Piercy
Good conditions for the first time
That's a premiere: Looking back on today's ride, I can say that the conditions were good. Not overwhelming. Just good.
As already mentioned was today's programm to cross the highest hill of the whole west coast ride from SF to Vancouver. I left a little bit later than usual because my tent was wet after a very rainy night and also because I cought a cold in the past 2 days.
After cycling a little bit along the misty coast I started climbing and at 11:45 it was already done I was already up there and could prepare for a nice downhill into the valley with the highest trees of the world - called "Redwoods". BTW: The fact that I didn't do so much more altitude than in the past days shows, how hilly it was along the coast...
In the first village already they offer the opportunity to drive through a tree and take the typical Redwoods-picture. Of course I did it as well - just on my bicycle.
After California 1 (the street I was following since SF) ended in this village I had to switch to the Highway 101 - it is definitely a weird feeling for a European to cycle on such a big road.
On the last 6 miles I even had trailwind and despite being able to go further ahead I decided to settle on a nice (empty) campground in the middle of these impressive trees.
