7. Piercy - Fernadale

The first awesome day follows the first good day.
This morning I started cycling on the famous Avenue of the Giants through the Redwoods and despite having some rain it was a very impressive experience to ride through this paradise of huge trees and beautiful rivers. Around 12 I stopped to take some pictures and was invited by a German couple for coffee. In their warm motohome he told me, that he cycled across Europe only one year ago - at the age of 75!
After this nice experience I made good progress and decided to continue until Ferndale. The last 20 miles were pretty hilly and windy again and my daily average speed (which was pretty high before) went down by more than 1mph. However, what I didn't now: They had a big bike-race in this town today and when I arrived they gave me dinner for free as well as a place to camp for the night!
